‘flex-semester’
calendar
Scheduled to start in 2028

Benefits to UNSW
Accessible education
Acknowledging different learning needs and pathways.
Future ready and adaptive
Enhances flexibility to scale and respond to market and other external influences.
Enhanced staff and student experience
Flexible structure for diverse working, learning, teaching, and research needs across all student and staff cohorts.
Industry and research integration
Greater alignment of study and workloads to enable industry and research opportunities.
The key features of the new flex-semester calendar include:
- Two 12-week teaching semesters with a mid-semester break
- Two optional six-week summer and winter terms for short, intensive or catch-up courses
- Improved alignment with our hexamester calendar, which consists of six teaching periods per year. This will enable us to expand our lifelong learning offering and provide flexibility for new or additional post-graduate courses in the future.
